I chose the theme “Interconnected \u2013 Human and Non-Human” for a recent workshop at Scampston Hall, a peer group, and a session with two people which was very successful. Most said it was the best workshop they have taken part in. For me it was so inspiring to hear of the way in which nature has a part in so many lives and creates memories of cares and concerns about the world and our environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This morning two beautiful women were moved to tears by the poems I used: Once upon a hill by Kathleen Jamie and Forest by Carol Ann Duffy. These poems portray the constancy of trees in our lives, the ability to ground us in their solidity of what they offer in terms of nourishment in the air we breathe, the land on which we place each step and the lifeforce within each of them, all to enhance our environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The session went from talking of the nature of trees, to the earth elements within us and the water element. Memories of childhood came alive, journeys made, encounters with different cultures, a storm, spiritual awareness and much more. In the writing produced, I invited each participant to reflect on what they had written and asked them to circle words or phrases which stood out for them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
After several pieces of writing from prompts through images, poetry and written prompts they were able from these words to create their own poems. Many commented that they couldn\u2019t write a poem. All did and each and every one of them came from the heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I won\u2019t comment on them individually as we are committed to confidentiality, but I left the group feeling very humble that I had instigated, prompted and invited to come forward such wonderful insights. I feel honoured to be able to fulfil these needs and to listen to insights, thoughts and feelings of the heart, body and spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
